On Friday
January 12, 2007 Oklahoma and other midwest States were hit with
a major ice storm. McAlester was one of the hardest hit areas,
we even made the National news! We saw it coming so stock piled
water- enough to last 10 days, we stocked in food and supplies-
and settled in. Power went down at 3 AM on Saturday morning. Terry,
head of our maintance department secured a generator in record
time and we soon had heat, a TV a computer, scanner and printer
(Got a lot of research done, some exciting things will be coming
to the web page!). We have a gas range and a gas water heater
so we had hot water and could cook, so we faired far better than
most. Karen and her sons came out from town where they had no
heat or electric to ride out the storm. It took 10 days to get
electric back up, fortunately water was never lost. the barn was
in almost total darkness so when the lights came up the clean
up was massive, We lost lots of tree limbs and some wires but
no major trees and no poles so we really were very lucky. We thought
you would enjoy some pictures. They are in order from the first
day the ice stopped falling until the day power came back up.
